EX2 Adventures: Rendezvous Run and Ride 2016 Double Race Report

EX2 Adventures: Rendezvous Run and Ride 2016 Double Race Report

Sometime early September I was looking for events that would complete my 2016 race calendar that was NOT a triathlon. I had already lined up the 2nd annual Family Duathlon and the family 5K charity run at Old Bust Head Brewing CO., but the one thing that was missing was my annual fall trip to visit my sister and her husband in Missouri for an adventure race. Over the weekend my parents decided drive the 600+ miles to visit us in Virginia. When my parents do make the trip, we usually visit one new tourist attraction and one new winery to serve as subtle reminder that if they moved out to the east coast we could make these types of events more frequent than once a year1. This year my parents requested a little trail walking as โ€œFamily Hiking Day 2016โ€ was scheduled during the same weekend they were visiting us, and they have a goal to walk all of the Appalachian Trail (or at least in all states). We found the closest advertised event, which happened to be Harpers Ferry, WV. We had a great day of hiking, being tourists in the downtown area, and visiting Camp Hill. It was an excellent way to spend the day with family and the outdoors. They still havenโ€™t moved, but weโ€™ll continue to try.ย ↩ [ Read More... ]

New Site Redesign

Over the past week Iโ€™ve been fighting an infection that was draining all of my energy, rendering me incapable of working out1. This left me with some extra time on my hands to address that this site design has become boring to me and drastically needed a makeover! While reviewing different templates for the Jekyll static site generator, I eventually returned to the awesome page designer Michael Rose for his new Minimal Mistakes Theme. Not being able to exercise should be a good thing during the triathlon off-season, but it seems more detrimental to my mind and general wellbeing than expected.ย ↩ [ Read More... ]

Wisdom Oak Winery Sprint 2016 Race Report

Last year I had such a great time at Wisdom Oak Winery Sprint Triathlon that I decided to do it again this year in hopes to podium at least one more time this racing season. Once again, Race Director Kate Lucas did an excellent job of facilitating experienced and novice triathletes on how the course was setup and the markings to watch for while on the bike and run. There were great vibes throughout the morning as I was able to befriended a few people in and out of transition, able to watch the Olympic race participants take off at the beginning allowing me to be a spectator for a few minutes, and then finally cheering on the last few athletes remaining in accomplishing their goal of finishing a triathlon. Culpeper Sprint 2016 Race Report

Culpeper Sprint 2016 Race Report

This is event number five on the 2016 VTS/MTS Series which brings me to be competitive for series points awards at the end of the year. Any events done after this race will either be ignored or may increase my total score as only the five HIGHEST scores are counted. I donโ€™t believe Iโ€™ll be in the top five at the end of the year, but knowing that Iโ€™m on a very short list of individuals who did complete at least five events is a nice little checkmark for 2016.
